How it all began. Why Heart Strings? It all started back in 2017, before we had any inkling of a pandemic looming. I would wear my handmade knitted items, such as hand knit hats and cozy ponchos, to book club and neighborhood gatherings. Friends would often comment, “I love your hand knit hats, mittens, ponchos, and such. I love that you wear what you make.” One day, I showcased my latest creation—a super comfy poncho made from the softest chunky alpaca wool (not scratchy, if you know about the softest types of alpaca yarn!). I wore it to my book club, and that night, I heard, “I want to learn how to knit!” I thought to myself, how can I teach them to knit? I’m not an expert, but I love knitting and want to share the gift of knitting from the heart. We came up with a knitting project where those eager to learn would come to my house, and somehow, I would teach them! Initially, I was apprehensive, asking myself, what have I gotten into now? But we did it! We gathered around my dining room table and started from scratch. To be honest, not everyone took to knitting; it’s not for everyone. However, those who did became some of the greatest knitters, and I now find myself learning from them. They have been my biggest supporters on this knitting journey! Our project was called LITTLE HATS, BIG HEARTS, in connection with American Heart Month in February. This initiative honors babies, moms, and heart-healthy lives while raising awareness of Congenital Heart Defects. We celebrated American Heart Month by knitting red hats for newborns. Every baby born in February received a handmade red knit hat infused with love! A friend of mine, a pediatric NICU nurse, picked up the hats and delivered them to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for distribution to the newest members of the world. This project was particularly close to my heart. Having been born on Valentine’s Day and sharing the same birthday with my son, I feel a deep connection to the heart space and the love that radiates from it. I am a sensitive, loving soul navigating through a sometimes harsh world, seeking to connect with like-minded individuals. Thus, I created a sacred space for myself here at Heart Strings Yarn and invite others to join me in this journey. Fast forward a bit, I became a yoga teacher. The pandemic hit, and everything seemed chaotic. People were in need of something to soothe and calm their minds. A friend encouraged me to create a class at her yoga studio, leading to the birth of Sit Breathe Knit at the Heartstrings Yarn studio. I couldn’t believe it—people were signing up and committing to a month of Friday nights with me! They loved it, returning again and again. Oh. My. Goodness. People love this class. They keep coming back, and it’s only getting better! For many years, I have turned to yoga, meditation, and knitting to soothe my soul, and now I want to share this passion with the world. Many of us are feeling out of sorts in today's world and post-pandemic anxieties, and my purpose is to provide a safe space to nourish the heart and soul through yoga, meditation, and knitting from the heart. Stay tuned for more to come. https://heartstringsyarn.life/
